Using Respondus Monitor

Before the exam begins, the student will be led through the start-up sequence.

The first step is a Terms of Use Agreement. This step, the webcam check, is required every time a student uses Respondus Monitor. It ensures that the student’s webcam and microphone are working properly before the exam begins. Instructors can provide additional instructions to students in this step, such as what types of resources are permitted or not permitted during the exam.

The guidelines and tips step, which is optional, walks the student through a series of helpful items on how to have a suitable testing environment and avoid problems.

If selected by the instructor, the student photo step takes a picture of the student to help confirm the identity of the student. The instructor can also require students to show a form of photo identification in this step called show ID. The instructions for this step can be modified.

The environment check can be customized to have students record a brief video of their surroundings to ensure that external resources like books, devices, or other computers have been put away.

The final step has a student confirm that facial detection can be achieved by the Respondus Monitor system before proceeding to the exam.

The student then begins the exam. The recording will end automatically when the students submit the exam for grading.
