What to Expect as a Patient
- Our teaching clinic’s patients are accepted based on their need for preventive services.
- Treatment will take longer to complete in comparison with private dental practices. Appointments are four hours in length and individual procedures take two to four appointments to complete.
- Treatment may be discontinued if you repeatedly cancel and/or fail to appear for your scheduled appointments.

New Patient Appointment
Your first appointment will be four hours in length with a student hygienist. You will receive diagnostic images (X-rays) and a thorough review of your medical and dental history. You will need to provide a list of all prescription and over-the-counter medications you take, including the name and dosage. You will be examined by a faculty hygienist and dentist. You will receive a comprehensive treatment plan with your oral health needs.

Print and bring the following documents with you to your first appointment. You may also fill out this paperwork when you arrive for your first appointment. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to fill out the paperwork on site.

Minors
Children under the age of 18 years of age:
- Must be accompanied by a legal guardian. The legal guardian must remain in the clinic waiting room for the length of the minor’s appointment.
- Must be supervised by a legal guardian anytime they are on campus.
- May not be left unattended in the patient waiting room.
- Not allowed in the dental clinic treatment room unless they are the patient.
Appointment Confirmation
The clinic requires a 48-hour notice to change or cancel an appointment. If a patient does not confirm an appointment within 48 hours, the appointment time may be given to another patient.
