This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Perioperative Nursing Enhanced Skills Certificate. This guided pathway does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn the Perioperative Nursing Enhanced Skills Certificate. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official certificate requirements.
This two-semester program offers registered and graduate nurses the opportunity to acquire additional theory and skills required for patient care in the surgical setting. The perioperative approach to patient care is employed. Principles of surgical asepsis, patient care, use of surgical supplies and equipment, and ethical/legal aspects are presented. The emphasis of the program is on the scrub and circulating roles in perioperative nursing. Nurses enrolled in this program must hold a current license from the Board on Nursing for the State of Texas or be a graduate of a nursing program eligible for the next NCLEX-RN examination.
The Associate Degree Nursing A.A.S. by El Centro Campus is a requirement proior to this Enhanced Skills Certificate. Speak with your success coach at your campus to choose courses that will help you to transfer to a specific university.

SRGT 1166 – Practicum (or Field Experience) - Surgical Technology/Technologist This is the capstone course for the award.
