Patient care technician is an entry-level health care position that serves as an excellent base for future medical fields. The skills taught in the HPR program are recognized as entry-level direct patient care skills by local hospitals and clinics.
Each HPR award can be completed in one semester and consists of three courses. After completing the two HPR awards, students enroll in HPRS 1201 and HPRS 1191 to complete the Dallas College Patient Care Certificate. The HPRS 1191 course prepares you for successful completion of the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant exam (CPCT/A).
The NHA is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
After completing the certificate, you are eligible to sit for the national credentialing exam. Students who pass the national credentialing exam use the designation CPCT/A after their name to maximize their earning potential and career opportunities.
