The pathway in Chemistry will provide a foundation for you to complete courses toward an Associate of Science (AS) that will help you transfer to the University of North Texas (UNT) to earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Although there may be several options to fulfill certain requirements for the associate’s degree, please note that this pathway lists the specific courses leading to this bachelor’s degree. All plans can be modified to fit the needs of part-time students. This is not an official degree plan. Refer to catalog for official degree requirements. You must receive a GPA of at least 2.00 on all college-level course work. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College.   • ENGL 1301 – Composition I This is a (CB 010) Core course. Must earn a grade of “C” or higher.
  • MATH 2413 – Calculus I This is a (CB 020) Core course. Must earn a grade of “C” or higher. Prerequisites of MATH 1314, MATH 1316, and MATH 2412, prior to enrolling in the course.
  • EDUC 1300 – Learning Framework All college students with fewer than 12 semester credit hours of successful college credit (grade of “C” or above) must take a student success course in the first semester.
  • CHEM 1411 – General Chemistry I This is a (CB 030) Core course. Prerequisite of MATH 1314, or equivalent academic preparation, prior to enrolling in the course.

  • ENGL 1302 – Composition II This is a (CB 010) Core course. A grade of “C” or higher is required by UNT.
  • HIST 1301 – United States History I This is a (CB 060) Core course.

A minimum grade point average of 2.5 in all advanced science, mathematics, and engineering courses is required for graduation with a degree in chemistry.

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry requires a minor of at least 18 hours, of which 6 hours must be advanced. The plan below gives places for six minor 3-hour courses, of which two are advanced (that is, at either the 3000- or 4000-level). However, the actual number of additional courses at UNT depends on the choice of minor. If less than 6 courses are required, those classes can be replaced by electives. The options for a minor are:

  • Mathematics: requires 2 extra advanced classes
  • Computer Science: requires 6 extra classes, including 2 advanced classes
  • Physics: requires 3 extra advanced classes and 1 advanced lab
  • Biology: requires 5 extra classes and 2 extra labs, including 2 advanced classes and 1 advanced lab
  • Geology: requires 6 extra classes, including 2 advanced classes
  • Materials Science: requires 6 advanced classes
