Why should you use a virtual desktop? Dallas College provides
students with their own virtual desktop that can be accessed on
any PC, on campus, or at home, or on the go on Android or iOS.
The virtual desktop allows students to access software needed
for their courses and is reachable from anywhere in the world
with a secure internet connection. It is similar to using a
computer stored in the cloud with the same look and feel.
The advantages of using a virtual desktop:
-
Students can access software for their coursework on the first
day of the class. No need to purchase additional software or
wait to go to a computer lab. Everything is accessible from
day one.
-
Even without a powerful computer, students can run heavy
compute and graphic intensive coding, engineering, and design
applications on the virtual desktop environment.
-
All files created and saved to the virtual desktop will be
accessible to the student whenever and wherever they're logged
into their virtual desktop.
-
The virtual desktop environment uses OneDrive cloud storage,
so the files created can be saved to the virtual desktop,
which syncs to the student's OneDrive account. The student can
access their OneDrive account and files on any desktop
computer, laptop, or mobile device.
-
Assignments and documents created and saved to the virtual
desktop can be shared with instructors via a direct link. No
more need to try and compress large files to send via email or
share USB drives between students and instructors.
