What Emergency Alerts Look Like

​The Dallas College Emergency Alerts system allows you to choose how you want to be notified of an emergency: by email, by text message or by a recorded voice message on your phone. Choose an​y or all methods of notification. There is no charge to receive alerts, but standard text message charges from your cellphone provider will apply.​

Here’s what your alerts from Dallas College Emergency Alerts will look like:

When you pick up the phone, you will hear a computer-generated voice giving the message.

Here is an example of the message:

Severe weather in BROOKHAVEN campus area. Take immediate shelter. Move to marked "Safer Zone" areas. If not at campus, STAY AWAY! (Dallas College Alert). Take immediate shelter. A storm and/or tornado reported near Brookhaven campus. Move to marked "Safer Zone" areas. If not at campus, STAY AWAY for your own safety. We'll update you as soon as we are able to. The names of campuses and locations may be abbreviated in text and email messages. Here is a list of abbreviations for the seven campuses of Dallas College:

  • Brookhaven: BHC
  • Cedar Valley: CVC
  • Eastfield: EFC
  • El Centro: ECC
  • Mountain View: MVC
  • North Lake: NLC
  • Richland: RLC

Dallas College Emergency Alerts are sent to the email address you provided to us when you registered for classes, so be sure to update your email address if it has changed recently. To be sure you receive a timely alert, consider also signing up for a backup notification method. It’s easy to update your email address or to request that you also be alerted by phone call and/or text message. How quickly you receive the alert by phone or text may vary according to your cellular network. You also have the option to opt out of receiving emergency alerts.
