How Do I Get My Loan?

How do I get a Federal Direct Loan for this academic year?

  1. Apply to Dallas College.
  2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  3. Set up your Dallas College eConnect account.
  4. Log in to eConnect and under the Financial Aid section:
  5. Sign in to StudentLoans.gov using your FSA ID and do the following:
    • Complete Loan Entrance Counseling. It is very important that you read all sections of the Loan Entrance Counseling carefully. It will tell you about loan types, consolidation, interest rates, when and how you must pay your loan back, and what happens when you leave school.
    • Complete and sign your Master Promissory Note.
  6. Register for at least six hours (half time).
  7. After you are notified that your financial aid package has been awarded, log in to eConnect. Under the Financial Aid section, click on Financial Aid Checklist to accept your Federal Direct Loan.
  8. Also under the eConnect Financial Aid section, click on FA Award Letter to accept the terms and conditions of your award package.

Note: You may also decline or adjust the amount of your Federal Direct Loan on eConnect. Log in to eConnect, and under the Financial Aid section, click on Financial Aid Checklist to decline or adjust the amount of your Federal Direct Loan. You must still complete step 8, accepting the terms and conditions of your award package.
