(DALLAS) — Business and community leaders in Grand Prairie are working to strengthen ties with Dallas College and provide a pipeline of education and workforce opportunities for residents.
Later this week, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Grand Prairie (HCCGP) will appoint longtime Dallas College executive Elizabeth Guerra to its board of directors. Guerra is the senior director of workforce for Dallas College. Her appointment will solidify relationships between business leaders and the college, said David Barrientos, senior director of Career Connected Learning.
With about 3,000 students, Grand Prairie ranks fifth in total Dallas College enrollment by zip codes and cities, he said.
“It is imperative that we foster strong connections and collaborations to support this vibrant and integral part of the community. By joining forces, the college and the chamber of commerce can play a pivotal role in promoting the growth, success and economic empowerment of the Hispanic community.
“This partnership between the college and the chamber of commerce is important as the city of Grand Prairie provides a student pipeline to Dallas College, even though there is no center or campus location within the city limits,” Barrientos said.
Additionally, Dallas College and the chamber will engage with the Hispanic community, celebrate its heritage and promote networking opportunities.
Guerra said she is honored to accept the appointment and will work to promote education pathways that benefit learners of all ages, while increasing Dallas College’s visibility in Grand Prairie.
“I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity. It is a great privilege to collaborate with other dedicated individuals in supporting minority- and women-owned businesses. I look forward to bringing my passion, skills and knowledge to ensure we provide the best possible learning experience for our members and community,” Guerra said. “I am committed to working collaboratively with Dallas College, HCCGP and all stakeholders to achieve our shared vision for higher education.”
Guerra has more than 25 years of experience working in community colleges. She is an administrator with extensive knowledge of the workforce education program, college registration, admission policies and procedures, and course curriculum and development.
During her accomplished and well-rounded career at Dallas College, she has worked at both El Centro and Eastfield campuses.
Guerra will be sworn in Wednesday, June 28, at 5:30 p.m. at the chamber’s Small Development Center, 2100 Virginia Drive, Suite B, in Grand Prairie.
