(DALLAS) — After a nearly year-long search, Dallas College has named Louis Burrell as the new leader of its Human Resources Department, where Burrell will serve as acting chief human resources officer effective today. In his new role, Burrell assumes the full suite of human resources responsibilities, including organizational development, technology implementation, recruiting, training, total rewards and all other aspects of human resources operations.

Burrell joins Dallas College after serving as chief administrative officer for Arizona-based Healthcare Trust of America, the largest dedicated owner and operator of medical office buildings in the United States. While there, Burrell successfully implemented performance management programs and processes that tied business goals and objectives to individual performance and compensation programs. In his new role, Burrell will report to Dallas College Vice Chancellor of Operations Bradford Williams.

“Louis is an experienced and influential senior human resources leader with a strong record of delivering results,” Dr. Williams said. “Over the course of his career, he has developed talent and partnered with executive leaders in global companies such as Boeing, Frito-Lay and the Ford Motor Company, to name a few. We are very excited for him to join us.”

While with Boeing Global Services, Burrell served as human resources director for global business transformation and integration. In that position, he led the integration of four subsidiary businesses into the parent Boeing company and oversaw the rollout of a new human resources business model that included implementing a global human capital management solution to more than 300 locations.

“At Dallas College, we look forward to Louis bringing his considerable talents to shape human resources into a strategic, talent-focused and service-oriented function that promotes a culture of inclusivity and appreciation for the diversity represented in the county and among our employees,” said Chancellor Justin Lonon. “I am confident that Louis will be a valuable asset to our team and will help us to continue to build a strong and vibrant workplace that honors and rewards the hard work of our employees.”

Burrell holds an MBA in human resources management and information systems from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and a Bachelor of Science in computer science and information systems from Saint Augustine's University in Raleigh, N.C.

As he recently said in accepting the position, “North Texas is an economic powerhouse that continues to attract top talent. Dallas College must ensure that we are continuing to attract, develop and retain employees who ultimately provide our students with the tools for success. I look forward to working with leaders across the college to foster and maintain a culture where hard work and innovation is rewarded and leveraged to make us one of the top places to work in the region.”
