Who’s Eligible

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program has been operating for over 50 years, offering essential services to people in need of assistance with their tax returns. The program is designed to support:

  • People who generally make $64,000 or less
  • Persons with disabilities
  • Taxpayers with limited English proficiency

VITA Services

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free in-person tax help for individuals and families who earned less than $64,000 in 2024.

The service is provided by IRS-certified volunteers. VITA is available during days, evenings and weekends to ensure flexibility for your busy schedule.

What to Bring

Work

  • Form W-2s — Wage and Tax Statement
  • Form 1099s — Interest Income (1099-INT), Unemployment
  • Compensation (1099-G), Miscellaneous Income (1099-MISC), Dividend Income (1099-DIV), Retirement Plan Distribution (1099-R) and Cancellation of Debt (Form 1099-C)

Identification

  • Social Security cards or ITIN letters for everyone on the tax return
  • Photo ID for tax filers

Education

  • Child and dependent care expenses
  • Form 1098 T — Tuition Statement
  • Form 1098 E — Student Loan Interest Statement

Health Care

  • Health Insurance Marketplace exemption certificate
  • Form 1095-A — Health Insurance Marketplace Statement
  • Form 1095-B — Health Coverage
