April is Dallas Arts Month and we are excited at Dallas College to present our first ever Dallas College Arts Month.
My name is Ahava Silky-Jones and I serve as the Vice Provost for the School of Creative Arts, Entertainment and Design at Dallas College where we have over 12 galleries and 10 performance spaces across our seven campuses.
During Dallas College Arts Month this April we will be showcasing our incredible students, faculty, staff and community partnerships throughout the Dallas region.
One of the events I'd like to highlight for you to attend this April is the Downtown Dallas Art and Music Festival.
We will be partnering with Downtown Dallas Incorporated and FG3 Fine Art Productions to showcase and sell students, faculty and alumni artwork, showcase local musicians as well as support community artists.
This festival will be held in and around space at Adolphus Tower and the Main Street Garden.
Another event we're really excited about is our second annual Design Week. We'll have four straight days of events at our campuses featuring our digital arts, design, fashion, architecture, interior design programs and more.
Our culminating event for Design Week will be a fashion show to be held at a Storia event venue. When you enter you will feel like you arrived at a luxurious New York Fashion Week event. We'll be showcasing our student designers with never-before-seen design.
We will also be hosting our first-ever Dallas College professional art tour to showcase our professional collection which includes artists from throughout the Dallas region as well as nationally and globally renowned artists.
The collection has been in existence for over 50 years and includes pieces from artists like Salvador Dali, Norman Rockwell, Robert Indiana, Jeremy Biggers, Mary Iron Eyes and Marty Ray.
As Dallas Arts Month coincides with the end of our semester we will also have our culminating performances for dance, music and theater as well as visual arts receptions and more across all of our campuses.
I'm excited to wish everyone a happy Arts Month. You don't want to miss it.
