What is The DAISY Foundation?
DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, and the program was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died from an autoimmune disease. Patrick’s family was deeply touched by the care and compassion shown by the nurses during his illness, and this foundation is a way to say thank you to nurses. What is the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students?
Using the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses as a model, this recognition is designed to highlight outstanding and compassionate care provided to patients and families by prelicensure Nursing students. We encourage patients, patient families, nurse educators and other providers who work with our students to nominate a student who is worthy of recognition.
What is the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Educator?
The program is designed to provide national recognition of educators to be all-inclusive, including faculty, clinical educators, simulation educators, and professional development educators. The DAISY Foundation aims for this program to foster a positive work environment and to reinforce the vital role that academic educators have in training the next generation of nurses. We encourage all alumni and current students of the program to nominate a nurse educator who made a positive impact during your educational journey.
