The Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.) is a Board-approved collegiate degree program consisting of lower-division courses intended for transfer to baccalaureate programs that lead to initial Texas teacher certification. This plan is for those who are interested in earning certification to teach Mathematics, 8-12 in a classroom setting.
This is an example course sequence for students interested in teaching math, Grades 8-12. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn an A.A.T. degree leading to Initial Texas Teacher Certification in Mathematics, 8-12, which will increase your chances of transferring to Texas A&M University-Commerce (TAMU-Commerce) to earn the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Secondary Certification. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours (15 hours) required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official degree requirements.

- Meet with a faculty advisor or your success coach regarding placement for field observation required for EDUC 2301 course.
- Begin applying to TAMU-Commerce.
- Begin applying for Financial Aid and Scholarships. You can start the FAFSA in October for the next academic year. (i.e., in October 2021, you can complete the FAFSA if you plan to register for classes at TAMU-Commerce in Fall 2022)
- Check with your success coach for important deadlines and dates.
