This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Pediatric Cardiac Sonography. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Cardiac Sonography – Pediatric Cardiac Sonography.  Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours (15 hours) required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. The Pediatric Cardiac Sonography program is a two-year A.A.S. degree program with a competitive admissions process. The Pediatric Cardiac Sonography program is a two-year program that prepares students to function as a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer. The first year of the curriculum is designated as the Health Occupations Core Curriculum which consists of general education and health occupations courses all of which are completed before a student applies for entrance to the program. The second year of the curriculum provides intensive didactic and clinical training in the medical specialty of Pediatric Cardiac Sonography. Courses that complete the degree are noted below.

A minimum grade of “C" is required in all courses.

COMPLETE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Completion of six Health Professions Readiness courses that satisfy the Health Professions Readiness I & II Skills Achievement Awards
  2. Two years' employment as a healthcare worker within a medical related laboratory AND Direct patient care experience within the last 5 years
  3. Current credential in a healthcare profession (e.g., RN, Medical Assisting, Radiography, Paramedic, LVN, etc.)

PREREQUISITE SEMESTER 1

Prerequisite Semesters 1 and 2 can be modified for part-time enrollment. Once you are admitted to the program, you must enroll as outlined in Program Semesters 1-3.

ENGL 1301 – Composition I This is a Core course.

MATH 1314 – College Algebra This is a Core course.

BIOL 2401 – Anatomy and Physiology I This is a Core course. To register you must complete BIOL 1406 with a grade of “C" or better.

HUMANITIES FINE ARTS ELECTIVE* This is a Core course.
