OPTION 1: This degree option is ONLY for students: Who DO NOT have Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) certification or affiliation. Who have not completed state approved Fire Fighting Training.

This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing a degree in Fire Protection Technology. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Fire Protection Technology. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours (15 hours) required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official degree requirements.

The Associate Degree Program in Fire Protection Technology integrates professional firefighting technical skills related to the everyday demands of the profession with academic and fire science courses covering fire service organization, strategy and tactics, fire codes and alarm and extinguishing systems, to provide graduates with the necessary ancillary knowledge to advance into supervisory and/or management level positions. The program is designed for students employed or those who desire employment in the fire service. Courses that complete the degree also complete the Fire Arson/Investigation (FC) and Fire Science (FS) Certificates.

SEMESTER 1

FIRT 1338 – Fire Protection Systems (Course also applies to FC)

FIRT 1327 – Building Construction in the Fire Service (Course also applies to FC, FS)

ENGL 1301 – Composition I This is a Core course. Must earn a grade of “C" or higher.

CHOOSE ONE:   

  • FIRT 1301 – Fundamentals of Fire Protection (Course also applies to FS) OR
  • FIRT 1311 – Fire Service Hydraulics

CHOOSE ONE:   

  • SPCH 1311 – Introduction to Speech Communication This is a Core course.
  • SPCH 1315 – Public Speaking This is a Core course. OR
  • SPCH 1321 – Business and Professional Communication This is a Core course.
