This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Emergency Medical Services - Paramedicine Level II Certificate. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn the Emergency Medical Services – Paramedicine Level II Certificate. Courses from this certificate may apply to the related A.A.S. degree. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

Upon successful completion of all course work, the student is eligible to take the exam for registration as a Paramedic through the National Registry of EMT. Upon successful completion of that examination, the student is eligible to apply for certification as a Paramedic in the State of Texas. Documentation of successful completion of the National Registry of EMT exam must be submitted prior to registration. Courses that complete the Paramedicine Level II Certificate are noted below.

ENGL 1301 – Composition I This is a Core course. Must earn a grade of "C" or better.

EMSP 2471 – Anatomy and Physiology for Paramedics

EMSP 2206 – Emergency Pharmacology

CHOOSE ONE:   

  • MATH 1314 – College Algebra This is a Core course. Must earn a grade of "C" or better. OR
  • MATH 1332 – Contemporary Mathematics (Quantitative Reasoning) This is a Core course. Must earn a grade of "C" or better.

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your advisor to confirm academic and career goals before the end of the semester.
  2. Meet with a faculty or career advisor regarding the Practicum course.

EMSP 2137 – Emergency Procedures

EMSP 2305 – EMS Operations Course recommended in term 1 after completion of EMSP 1338. This course spans two semesters.

EMSP 2143 – Assessment Based Management

EMSP 2266 – Practicum (or Field Experience)-Emergency Medical Technology/Technician (EMT Paramedic)

SEMESTER 4 ACTION ITEMS

  1. After reviewing your degree plan and program of study, meet with your advisor to apply for the Paramedicine Level II Certificate.
  2. Sign up for commencement.
