This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Welding Technology – Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Occupational Skills Award. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn the Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Occupational Skills Award. Courses from this certificate may apply to the related A.A.S. degree. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. The Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) occupational skills award program is designed to qualify students in the shielded metal arc welding processes on either plate or pipe in accordance to the American Welding Society (AWS) or the American Petroleum Institute (API) welding procedures. Courses that complete the Occupational Skills Award are noted below.
Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.
