This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Health Professions Readiness I Skills Achievement Award (HPRA I). It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a Health Professions Readiness I Skills Achievement Award (HPRA I). Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See catalog for official certificate requirements.

The Health Professions Readiness I Skills Achievement Award (HPRA I) is a skills achievement award that prepares students for entry into the healthcare workforce and the Health Professions Readiness Award II. The HPRA I provides didactic instruction and lab experience in the essential healthcare workforce skills of wellness theory, attitude development, the impact of cultural beliefs, patient care skills, safety issues, patient monitoring, health documentation, and the management concepts necessary for effective health professions operations.

This award promotes student success in the allied health program of their choice, prepares students for application to multiple programs, and results in the acquisition of demonstrable workforce skills for graduates of the program. The HPRA I is an industry recognized, portable credential that certifies essential skills needed for workplace success. Courses that complete the award are noted below.

NOTE: Students enrolling in this certificate's courses who plan to transfer to a four-year institution should consult with your success coach regarding transfer requirements and the transferability of these courses to the four-year institution of their choice. Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards but must meet course prerequisites.

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your success coach to confirm academic and career goals before the end of the semester.
  2. Meet with your success coach to research your career options and opportunities for job shadowing.
  3. Meet with your success coach to apply for the Health Professionals Readiness I Skills Achievement Award.
  4. Complete Health Professions Readiness Award I Award Completion Form and submit it to the Health Occupations Admissions Office (HOAO).
