This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Geographic Information Systems Technology. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a Geographic Information Systems Technician Occupational Skills Award. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. Visit the catalog for official certificate requirements.

The Geographic Information Systems Technology Program Occupational Skills Award would prepare graduates to perform entry-level duties of a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) industry. Students would be able to use GIS technology to support fundamental tasks such as digitizing and data population; share data via web GIS portals; and document accuracies and completeness of data. The program combines classroom and laboratory experience. Courses that complete the occupational skills award are noted below.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites, as long as the student completes the TSI waiver form prior to enrollment.
