This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing Fashion. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn the Alteration Specialist Level I Certificate. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. See the catalog for official certificate requirements.

The Alterations Specialist Level I Certificate is designed to prepare students for employment in clothing alterations and custom tailoring for the apparel industry. The award focuses on garment construction, tailoring techniques, custom clothing, and fit analysis for different body types. Students will develop basic draping, textile, and pattern-drafting skills that will also enhance their ability to re-size ready-made garments or create custom clothing. Students who complete this certificate will be able to work in the alteration service business, bridal alterations, retail alterations, or start their own establishment as a tailor, dressmaker, or custom sewer. Courses that complete the certificate are noted below.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.
