This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Electrical Technology Rising Electrical Technician Level I Certificate. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn a Level I Certificate in Rising Electrical Technician. Courses from this certificate may apply to the related A.A.S. degree. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. This program introduces students to the electrical and mechanical principles necessary to begin an electrical career as an electrician's helper. Commonly used tools and instruments are introduced and safety is emphasized. The preferred program alternative is for each student to experience a cooperative work experience at the program's culmination. Courses that complete the Certificate and the Rising Electrical Technician Occupational Skills Award (OSA) are noted below.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites.

ELPT 1321 – Introduction to Electrical Safety and Tools (Course also applies to OSA)

ELPT 1311 – Basic Electrical Theory (Course also applies to OSA)

ELPT 1325 – National Electrical Code I (Course also applies to OSA)

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your success coach to confirm academic and career goals before the end of the semester.
  2. Meet with your success coach to research your career options and opportunities for job shadowing.
  3. Meet with a faculty advisor or success coach regarding placement for the Cooperative course.

ELPT 1370 – Electrical Blueprint Reading

ELPT 1329 – Residential Wiring

CHOOSE ONE:

  • ELPT 1380 – Cooperative Education – Electrical and Power Transmission Installation/Installer, General (Course also applies to OSA) This is the capstone course for this award. OR
  • OSHT 1307 – Construction Site Safety and Health This is the capstone course for this award.

SEMESTER 2 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your success coach to request an official program of study audit and confirm or update your academic and career path and program of study.
  2. Meet with your success coach to apply for the Rising Electrical Technician Certificate and the Rising Electrical Technician Occupational Skills Award.
