This is an example course sequence for students interested in pursuing the Automotive Technology – Transmission Service Technician Occupational Skills Award. It does not represent a contract, nor does it guarantee course availability. Following this pathway will help you earn the Transmission Service Technician Occupational Skills Award. Courses from this certificate may apply to the related A.A.S. degree. Students must earn at least 25% of the credit hours required for graduation through instruction by Dallas College. The purpose of this program is to prepare students for entry-level employment as an automotive technician. This program reflects a building-block approach from simple to complex and includes theory, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of automobiles. Emphasis is placed on operational theory, practical skills, and accepted shop procedures related to transmission service. Courses that complete the Transmission Service Technician Occupational Skills Award are noted below.

Students pursuing this certificate are waived from the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards, but must meet course prerequisites, as long as the student completes the TSI waiver form prior to enrollment.

AUMT 2313 – Automotive Drive Train and Axles

AUMT 2321 – Automotive Electrical Diagnosis and Repair

AUMT 2325 – Automotive Automatic Transmission and Transaxle This is the capstone course for this award.

CHOOSE ONE: 

  • AUMT 2280 – Cooperative Education-Automobile/Automotive Mechanics Technology/Technician OR
  • AUMT 2380 – Cooperative Education-Automobile/Automotive Mechanics Technology/Technician  

SEMESTER 1 ACTION ITEMS

  1. Meet with your success coach to confirm your academic/career goals before the end of the semester.
  2. Meet with your success coach to research your career options and opportunities for job shadowing.
  3. Meet with a faculty advisor or success coach regarding placement for the Cooperative course.
  4. Meet with your success coach to request an official program of study audit and confirm or update your academic/career path and program of study.
  5. Meet with your success coach for assistance in preparing for job search.
  6. After reviewing your degree plan and program of study, meet with your success coach to apply for the Transmission Service Technician Occupational Skills Award.
