As a plumber, you can expect to install and repair water, gas, and other piping systems in homes, businesses, and factories. You'll also work with plumbing fixtures such as bathtubs and toilets, as well as appliances such as dishwashers and water heaters.

Employment of plumbers and similar occupations is projected to grow 2% from 2022 to 2032, which is about as fast as the average for all occupations, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

​ The demand for plumbers sho​​uld always be there with new construction as well as the need to maintain and repair plumbing systems in existing residences and other buildings.​

Working Environment

As a plumber, you could work in factories, homes, businesses and other places where there are plumbing systems. Plumbers must be able to lift heavy materials, climb ladders and work in tight spaces.

Additionally, outdoor work, in all types of weather, may be required. Evening and weekend work is common, too, as plumbers are often on call for emergencies.
