Grade Point System
Grading is based on the quality of a student’s work in relation to the criteria set by faculty for the given course. Final performance grades shall be reported for each student for every course undertaken according to the following grading system unless an alternative grading system is required to comply with state or national accrediting agency or licensure requirements.

Method of Calculation
Grade points earned for each course are determined by multiplying the number of points carried for each grade by the number of credit hours the course carries. Two grade point averages are computed. Grade point average one [GPA(1)] is computed by adding the total grade point values for all courses for which grade point values may be computed (performance grade) and dividing by the corresponding number of credit hours attempted during the same period. Grade point average two [GPA(2)] is computed in the same manner as GPA(1) except grade points earned in basic skills, remedial, and development courses, as determined by the Coordinating Board, are excluded from the calculation.
Incomplete Grades
Incomplete ("I") grades may be given when any of the reasons identified as "Exceptions for Good Cause" in ECC (LOCAL) prevent a student from completing the work in a course or, in the case of public disaster or public emergency, as declared by local, state, or federal government officials, at the direction of the Chancellor ("Exigent Circumstances"). All "I" grades must be approved by the instructor's supervisor.
Where an Exception for Good Cause applies, an "I" grade must be converted to a performance grade within 90 calendar days after the first day of class in the subsequent regular semester. After 90 days, if the work has not been completed, the "I" grade shall be converted to a performance grade.
In the case of Exigent Circumstances, an "I" grade must be converted to a performance grade by the end of the subsequent regular semester or as determined by the Chancellor, in consultation with College administration. If the work has not been completed in the period allowed, the "I" grade shall be converted to a performance grade.
In all cases, a contract is used to convert an "I" grade to a performance grade. The contract shall state the requirements for the satisfactory completion of the course.
An "I" grade may also be given if a student allegedly violates the scholastic dishonesty prohibition in the Code of Student Conduct and a faculty member is seeking suspension of the student under the Code of Student Conduct. A permanent grade shall be assigned after final disposition of the matter under this Code.
"W" Grade
A student who withdraws from class shall receive a grade of "W" regardless of work accomplished.
