What are Pharmacy Technicians?

Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of a registered and licensed pharmacist.

They perform duties such as processing prescription drug orders, patient medication record maintenance, issuing medications to patients, inventory management and compounding non-sterile medications.

 

Licensure & Certification

To practice in Texas, all pharmacy technicians are required to pass the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and gain registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy as a certified pharmacy technician.

Texas is one of several states in which pharmacy technician registration and certification are required. Texas also requires completion of a training program, usually administered by the pharmacist-in-charge at a pharmacy or through a self-study resource. 

Licensure and certification costs are not included in tuition cost.
